om Denly, the principal owner, has been buying and selling coins since 1955. He founded Denly's Coins of Boston (now known as Denly's of Boston) back in 1973.
In 1978, Dave Bowers, then part owner of Bower's and Ruddy, turned down a small group of Gem paper money. The seller then contacted Tom who ultimately purchased the lot. The next week, Tom displayed the notes, made several immediate sales and quickly became hooked on currency.

Soon after his start in currency, Tom began his famous collection of Boston Obsolete Bank Notes and Scrip. He sold that collection in 2003, but still collects Nationals and Obsoletes from the areas south of Boston.
